At work today we had a violent thunderstorm roll through town. It was very heavy rain, some hail, and a lot of lightning. I saw a lightning bolt come down and hit a building’s antennae just three stores north of ours. Then right after that the transformer on the corner of our parking lot blew up. So we had no electricity for the rest of the day.
That was a stressful afternoon for all of us, but thankfully we are all safe and tomorrow will be another day.
The Starbucks that I used to stop by in the morning has closed. I was shocked. There was no notice – they just moved everything out and turned out the lights.
I drove up this morning wanted my cappucino and the sign was not lit. That bothered me a little, but I thought that maybe the clerk who opened the store this morning got busy and forget to flip the switch. So I drove up anyway and the menu board was not lit, either. That was a bad omen for getting my coffee. No one was even inside moving about.
I gave up and went to work without the good coffee and had to drink the nasty brown stuff from our break room this morning. OMG! I can’t drink this stuff – not even with added sugar and added creamer. I have to find a different Starbucks for my morning quickstart.
Today the inauguration of Barack Obama was history being made. The TV networks had complete coverage of every moment throughout the day. I saw a little bit in the morning about Barack and Michele going to church, and then I saw a lot of filler and commentary until the actual swearing in. They were supposed have the oath taking at noon but they were about 20 minutes late, but that was understandable with all the crowds and the extra security they had to deal with. I’m so glad that the whole day was peaceful and there was nothing but celebration and happiness for welcoming our 44th President to office.
They just announced on CBS TV with Katie Couric that they have declared Obama has won the election due to the electoral college votes. Not all the state’s votes are in yet, and I suspect we will find that McCain won the popular vote, but it was the electoral college that established the winner again in our U.S. history. So we are all looking forward to a lot of good changes over the next four years with Obama as our new President.
