Silly Jokes

Everyone at work has been challenged to come up with two or three silly little jokes to recite at the sales meeting tomorrow. We want to end this month with a bang and the sales manager wants to have some fun at the meeting to get everyone pumped up.

I am not good at telling jokes and I don’t usually participate in the sales meetings, but because it is also my boss’s birthday, we thought we would surprise him with a cake from the bakery and make it into a short party, too. So I guess I should come up with a couple jokes somehow and be ready in case they expect me to have some jokes to share, too.

The Little Things

There is a great movie with Brigette Fonda that I watched years ago in which she is a little wildcat heathen taken off the streets and brainwashed into being a secret agent by some secret government agency. The movie is similar to the TV series called Nikita. Anyway, she is a wildcat and fights them all the way, refusing to cooperate. Then her trainer gives her the smackdown and says she either works with them or they’ll kill her. So she sees the light and starts working on becoming civilized. The person training her in ettiquette is played by Anne Bancroft, which is perfect casting. One of the secrets taught is to enter a room with a smile on your face. That is something I’ve always tried to do. The other secret is that when the devil has you cornered and you need to keep your cool, have a soothing saying that you can say to yourself to keep your head straight and give yourself courage to get through it.  The saying she was given is great and I’ve adopted it as my own:

“I never did mind the little things.”

Dream Car

I’m saving up for a new car. I saw one in traffic a couple weeks ago and thought, that’s what I want. I really want that.

So I told my boss that he should start looking out for my new car. He can get good deals on all kinds of cars, and since I work here I get a deep discount. But I still have to save up to get what I want. I don’t want a car payment, the finance company gets as much of your money as the auto makers do. I can pay cash for what I want and not have half of my paycheck going to rent and car payments.

Hello world!

What excites me most about writing a blog is having the chance to express myself here and sharing my thoughts with the world.

People have always told me that I have strong opinions, so maybe this will be a great outlet for that. I do try to only express my opinions when they are solicited in real life – I would never force my point of view on another person in a conversation. But here on this blog I can write whatever opinions I do have without worrying about being rude.

So if you like what I think or write about here, it would be great to hear a comment from you and if you disagree, you are welcome to express that point of view in a comment as well.
