Memorial Day Parade

Most of my friends have gone to the beach for the long weekend and Memorial Day holiday. But this year I agree to go downtown with a friend for the Memorial Day parade. We parked at the Fairfax Metro station and took the subway to downtown. There were thousands of people on the sidewalks all along the parade route. The parade was really nice – it lasted a little over an hour. Then we walked around the reflecting pool and walked through the Vietnam War Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. That was very sad and yet inspiring. I’m really glad we went. It made the holiday seem more real to me.

May Festival

May Day is a time to celebrate the arrival of Spring. As a kid, the school I attended always had a festival for May Day, with games and a parade and then we danced around the Maypole and wound long crepe paper streamers around the pole as we skipped to fun music of the Renaissance period. I love the month of May!
